Anuj Chand is a Nepali legal professional with a strong academic background. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Yale Law School. He completed his B.A. LL.B. from Kathmandu School of Law (KSL), graduating with the University Gold Medal and the Nepal Vidhya Padak “Ga”. He also completed a two-year LL.M. in Human Rights and Gender Justice from KSL, ranking first in his class in both years.
Anuj is licensed to practice law in Nepal. He currently works as a Bernstein Fellow with the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC). In this role, he monitors how the Government of Nepal implements Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations.
He previously worked at a Band 1 law firm in Nepal for more than three years. During this time, he advised many clients and handled several multi-million-dollar arbitration disputes. He has appeared before various courts, including the Supreme Court of Nepal.
In 2023 and 2024, Anuj served as an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School. He taught International Law, International Human Rights Law, and Jurisprudence.
While at Yale, he participated in the Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic. There, he worked on legal issues related to online hate speech in Kenya. He also collaborated with a Spain-based organization on the Constitution Hill Global Guidelines on Apex Court Appointments. He served as Managing Editor (Development) for the Yale Journal of International Law and was an editor for the Yale Journal on Regulation.
Anuj has an outstanding record in moot court competitions. He ranked as the second-best speaker at the 17th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot in Hong Kong, the first Nepali to achieve this. He was also the first Nepali oralist listed among the top 100 oralists at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
He was part of the winning team at the 14th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition’s Iran regional rounds, marking Nepal’s first international moot victory. His team is also the only Nepali team to finish in the top 20 at an international Jessup event.
Before attending Yale, Anuj received LL.M. offers from many top law schools. These include Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge, the University of Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, Duke, NYU, Georgetown, and Michigan.
